stem cell transplantation

(stem sell tranz-plan-TAY-shun)

This is a method of replacing blood-forming cells that were destroyed by cancer treatment. The new cells are injected into a person's bloodstream after treatment. Over time, the stem cells turn into the different kinds of blood cells the body needs.
