sigmoidoscopy [also called proctosigmoidoscopy]

(sig-moid-OSS-ko-pee)

A test that looks inside the lower colon using a thin tube with a light on the end (sigmoidoscope). It can also be used to take samples of tissue or cells to look at under a microscope.
