granulocyte colony-stimulating factor (G-CSF)

(GRAN-yoo-lo-site COL-uh-nee STI-myoo-late-ing FAC-ter)

A substance that turns on the production of blood cells during chemotherapy. It belongs to the family of drugs called growth factors.

Neulasta (chemical name: pegfilgrastim) and Neupogen (chemical name: filgrastim) are two granulocyte colony-stimulating factors.
