erlotinib (brand name: Tarceva)

(er-LOE-tye-nib)

A new drug that works against protein receptors (called EGF receptors) that are found on the surface of some cells. Cancer cells grow when other proteins hook on to these receptors. It has been approved for treatment of both pancreatic cancer and lung cancer.
