double-blinded

(DUH-buhl BLYN-did)

This is a type of clinical trial designed to fairly compare different forms of treatment. Neither the medical staff nor the patient knows which of several possible therapies the patient is receiving. This way, any expectation or prejudice about treatment results can be avoided.
