aromatase inhibitors

(a-ROW-ma-tays in-HIB-it-irs)

Drugs that lower the amount of estrogen made in the body after menopause. This can slow or stop the growth of cancer that needs estrogen to grow. Arimidex (chemical name: anastrozole), Femara (chemical name: letrozole), and Aromasin (chemical name: exemestane) are brand names of this type of drug.
