Joanne Lipman
Joanne Lipman is one of the nation's most prominent financial journalists and commentators. She was Editor-in-Chief of Condé Nast Portfolio, the business magazine and Web site she founded, from 2005 to 2009. Condé Nast Portfolio was the recipient of numerous honors, including National Magazine and Loeb Awards.
Previously, Ms. Lipman was a Deputy Managing Editor of The Wall Street Journal, the first woman to attain that post. While at the Journal, Ms. Lipman oversaw projects that won three Pulitzer Prizes.
Ms. Lipman first joined the Journal in 1983 as a reporter in New York, became the paper's first Advertising columnist in 1989, and was named a Page One editor in 1993. In 1998, Ms. Lipman created the paper's Weekend Journal, and served as its Editor-in-Chief until 2000. From 2000-2005, Ms. Lipman was a Deputy Managing Editor; in that post she helped oversee news coverage for the paper and also created a new fourth section, Personal Journal.
As a media industry consultant, Ms. Lipman provides strategic and editorial advice to major international news organizations and investment firms. She is a frequent television commentator on business issues, appearing on CNN, CBS, CNBC, and elsewhere.
A Yale University graduate, Ms. Lipman lives in New York with her husband and two children.
